Hi, I'm Nicole. Mom of three.

Calling all mama warriors.

If you're out there battling for your kid's health, whether it's eczema, food allergies, asthma, ADHD, anxiety, autism, weight or blood sugar, or something nobody has named yet. If you're exhausted, frustrated, and can't stand to watch them suffer any longer. If you've tried the prescriptions and either the results aren't there or your instincts are telling you there's a better way. If you feel alone in the fight, or like you're not getting enough of the support you need. This was me.

Three years ago my four-year-old's eczema woke us more than our newborn did. He had 5+ daily medications prescribed to him. Two of my kids had severe food allergies, and the third couldn't tolerate dairy. We'd made a midnight run to the ER when one child couldn't breathe. Today we're eczema free, tolerating most foods, and the inhaler mostly stays in the drawer. Let's get your family there too.

Let's get Gut Healthy Kids!
🌙

Blood on the sheets

He scratched so hard in his sleep that I found blood on his sheets. Nobody in the house slept.

🥜

Close to ten food allergies

My son alone had nearly ten. Every snack, every party, every restaurant became a risk assessment.

🏥

The atopic march

Eczema, then food allergies, then asthma. I later learned we were walking straight down it, and it often keeps going.

💊

No end date

Daily prescriptions for a four-year-old, indefinitely. My mom instincts were screaming that this wasn't what his little body needed.

I wanted off that path for my older two, and I had a newborn I desperately wanted to keep off it entirely.

Why so many of us are in this fight

American kids are sicker than they were twenty years ago, across almost every measure. It is not your fault, and you are not alone. Every number below links to its source.

what finally worked

We did not take no for an answer

I started hearing about a different way to think about eczema. A holistic view that says the skin is showing us what is happening inside the body. A red flag that my son needed to heal his whole body, not just his skin. And the place to start, the place to always start, is the gut.

I felt incredible relief. Maybe this didn't have to be his life, our lives, forever. I just had to heal his gut. But how on earth do you do that?

and so began the journey

It wasn't easy. It felt lonely. It wasn't overnight and it wasn't one thing. Food first. But also the detergent, the soap, the sprays under the sink. Sleep, time outside, and the stress all of us were carrying. Not instead of our doctors. Alongside them, with a wider lens.

Today our resilient little family is pretty darn close to thriving. Eczema free. Tolerating most foods. The inhaler mostly stays in the drawer.

We aren't perfect and we never will be. We enjoy pizza and ice cream (sometimes). We are smarter and healthier overall, and we keep learning and chipping away and doing our best.

Watching my kids feel good in their own bodies changed what I wanted to do with my life. I feel so strongly about this functional approach to wellness that I left almost twenty years in corporate finance and trained in functional nutrition, which looks for the root causes and uses food, sleep, movement, and daily habits to address them.

Now I want to help you. Moms, dads, grandparents, whoever is doing the fighting. If I can make it easier for you than it was for me, if I can help you meet or get back your healthy child, it is a game changer.

We do not eat perfectly, and we did not change everything at once. Nobody can. My hope is to give you practical, effective small steps that fit a busy home, that you can take on one or a few at a time, on your own timeline, and most importantly, that we tailor to work for your family.

This is our family's story, not medical advice, and every child is different. I am not a doctor. I can work with your doctors to help round out your child's wellness plan. Keep your pediatrician in the loop.
sound familiar?

If any of these is your house

You are exactly who I am writing to.

✨

Eczema that flares for no reason you can find

You have done the creams, maybe swapped the detergent, kept a food diary that never lands on a pattern. Skin can react days after a trigger, which is why memory fails and why we look at food and everything else that touches their skin and their days.

this was my son
🥜

Food allergies, asthma, or both

The atopic march is a path, and you can feel your kid walking it. "Natural flavors" tells you nothing, and you need to know what is in the cart before it is in your kitchen.

two of mine
🌪️

ADHD, focus, meltdowns, anxiety

Some kids react hard to dyes and sugar. Some sleep terribly and everyone pays for it the next day. The only honest way to know what matters is to change one thing, watch closely, and have swaps ready that don't start a fight.

the part nobody warned me about
🧩

Autism, and you want to support the whole child

Gut trouble, picky eating, and poor sleep are common companions. Nobody here is promising to change who your child is. We can help their body feel better, alongside the team you already have.

food, sleep, and calm help every kid
🍬

Weight, blood sugar, or "prediabetic" before middle school

Added sugar hides in things you would never call dessert. Getting under the daily limit is the single biggest lever most families have, and it rarely means giving up the foods kids love.

start with the drinks
💊

Tried every prescription and your gut says there's more to the story

You want root causes, not only band-aids. You have heard "gut health" a hundred times and want to know what it means and how to get there.

this is the whole site
To be clear: I have nothing against doctors. I want to work with them, support what they do, and help round out your child's wellness plan. Everything here is alongside your pediatrician, never instead of. If you are ready to roll up your sleeves and make some changes, knowing it isn't a quick pill, you're in the right place. You don't have to change your life overnight. I didn't.
where to start

Four places I'd begin, in the order I'd begin them

None of this needs a perfect week or a big budget. Pick one, on your own timeline.

1

Reduce the sugar

Aim for under 25 grams of added sugar a day for kids 2 and up, and zero under 2. The average American child eats about three times that. Track it for a few days. I was shocked by the "healthy" yogurt and the sunbutter-and-jam sandwiches my kids ate constantly. Artificial sweeteners are not a free pass, and many "healthier" sugar substitutes aren't. And don't forget the drinks: one serving of some popular lemonades and sports drinks holds two days of sugar. If a drink has no fiber, even organic fruit juice, count all of its sugar toward the daily limit.

2

Read the ingredients

If you see chemical names, or an ingredient you couldn't buy on its own at the grocery store, add that product to your phase-out list. One at a time, starting with what your family eats most. Food dyes are the easiest win; several are restricted in Europe and legal here. The scanner below does this for a whole list at once.

3

Protect sleep like it's medicine

A consistent bedtime routine, then three simple rules: no food 3 hours before bed, no drinks 2 hours before, no screens 2 hours before. A tired body flares more.

4

Ask questions about medications

Tylenol, ibuprofen, antihistamines, reflux medicines, antibiotics. They have their place, sometimes a life-saving one. They also have side effects, and most are hard on the gut. Ask why, how long, and what else could help. Never stop a medication without talking to your doctor first.

♥

We did not do all of this at once

We still do not eat perfectly. Progress was one change every week or two, in whatever order fit our life. More on every one of these is coming. If you want it, tell me below.

A hurting tummy talks to hurting skin, a tired brain, and a stressed immune system.it's all one system, and the whole house feeds it
why the whole house matters

It starts in the gut. It doesn't end there.

Most of a child's immune system lives in the gut, and the gut talks to the brain and the skin all day long. Food irritates it. So do the products on their skin, short sleep, too little daylight, and a tense house. That is why we look at the whole picture and watch six things, not one.

  • ✨ Skin: eczema, rashes, dryness
  • 💤 Sleep: falling asleep, staying asleep
  • 🪨 Tummy: aches, bloating, bathroom trouble
  • ⚡ Energy and focus: the 4pm crash, attention
  • 😊 Mood: meltdowns, anxiety, big feelings
  • 🛡️ Immunity: colds, congestion, sick days
when swaps aren't enough

Work with me

Some kids turn around with a few swaps. Some need a closer look: root causes, the right testing, a plan built for that specific child. That is the work I am training for and the work I love. If you have been at this for months and are still stuck, tell me what is going on.

  • 1Tell me about your child below. I read every one myself.
  • 2I reply within a couple of days with honest next steps, whether or not that includes working together.
  • 3If we work together, you never repeat your story from zero. What you have tracked comes with you.

Not medical advice. Please keep your pediatrician involved.
and one small tool we built along the way

We don't count calories. We count chemicals.

So we built the shortcut we never had. Paste your grocery list, and thirty seconds later you know exactly what to swap. Then track your child's skin, focus, sleep, and gut, week by week, until the red turns green.

fair questions

Things moms ask me

Can food affect my child's eczema?
For many children, yes, and the reaction can show up days after the trigger, which is why a food diary from memory rarely finds it. In our house, eczema was the first sign of a body under strain, and the gut was where the improvement started. Track skin weekly against a baseline, change one thing at a time, and keep your pediatrician and allergist involved.
How much added sugar should a child have per day?
The American Heart Association recommends less than 25 grams (about 6 teaspoons) of added sugar a day for ages 2 to 18, and none before age 2. The average American child eats about 19 teaspoons. Drinks are the fastest place to cut.
What percent of US children have a chronic condition?
The CDC reports that more than 40% of school-aged children and adolescents have at least one chronic health condition, such as asthma, obesity, or a behavior or learning problem. A 2025 JAMA study found the share climbing: from 39.9% to 45.7% of children seen in large pediatric health systems between 2011 and 2023.
What is functional nutrition?
Functional nutrition looks for the root cause of a symptom instead of only managing it, then uses food, sleep, movement, and daily habits to address it. It works alongside a child's doctor, not in place of one.
Is this medical advice?
No. It is one family's story, a weekly email, and a tool for seeing what is in your kids' food. For diagnosis and treatment, work with your pediatrician. I am happy to be one voice in your corner alongside them.
Are you a doctor?
No. I am a mom who went through this with three kids and is now dedicated to the study of functional nutrition and food as medicine. I say that plainly because you deserve to know exactly who you are listening to.
My kid is incredibly picky. Will any of this work?
Picky was our middle child's whole personality for a while. Swapping (same bowl, cleaner cereal) works far better than restricting, and the scanner's swaps are chosen for kids, not for adults on a wellness kick.
Is the grocery scanner free?
Yes, right now. Scanning, scores, additive flags, top swaps, one child profile, and weekly check-ins are free to use today. A Plus version with meal plans and multiple kids opens to founding families this fall; join the mailing list to hear first.
Is this an allergy-safety tool?
No, and I say it loudly on purpose. The scanner looks at food quality for gut health. It does not verify allergen safety or cross-contact warnings. If your child has food allergies, always read the physical label and follow your allergist.
What happens to my child's information?
Anything you track in the scanner stays on your own phone or computer unless you choose to share it with me through the consult form. I never sell data and there are no ads.
